Whether we realize it or not, we are all active combatants in a Memetic War: a viral war of ideologies and ideals that is a life and death affair, whether we think about Covid-19 or the Climate Emergency. In the Memetic War, nuclear weapons have been replaced by weaponized memes of conspiracy theories and cancel culture, threatening our health, lives, societies—and our future as a species.Every Facebook comment and YouTube share we each make is a skirmish in this war.
Beneath the flaming and trolling, quintessentially modern rivalries between religion and science, and between Left and Right wing politics, are resurging, pulling advanced economies into a civil war on the steps of Berlin’s Reichstag and on the streets of Portland.
As Yeats famously said: “Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world.” It is our job, as spiritually-inspired activists and change-agents, to hold the centre, both within ourselves and in society. This Civil War, in which some New Age seekers have joined Far Right extremists, and in which artists have had their work cancelled and academics had their free speech curtailed, cannot be resolved until the schism within us all—between science and spirituality— is resolved for good.
In this talk, Nick Jankel will share key insights from his journey from scientist to spiritual teacher which he described in his ‘metaphysical memoir’ Spiritual Atheist; and some profound wisdom from his life’s work Bio-Transformation Theory that can help everyone make sense of the degenerating civil space; and how we can each ‘hold the center’ with a grounded spirituality, an enlightened science, and an ‘iridescent centrism’.
